Six Flags Over Texas...

These flags are just a brief look into the history of the State of Texas.

Six nations that have had sovereignty over some or all of the current territory of the State of Texas:

Spain (1519–1685; 1690–1821)
France (1685–1690)
Mexico (1821–1836)
The Republic of Texas (1836–1845)
The Confederate States of America (1861–1865)
The United States of America (1845–1861; 1865–present)

Below each of these is the flag of Sam Houston State University.

This flag display can be found leading up to the Sam Houston Memorial Museum.

Sam Houston, (1793 - 1863) is one of the most illustrious political figures of Texas. Along with the Texas Army, Sam Houston defeated Santa Anna and the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto. He was the first elected President of the Republic of Texas.
