Im Garten des Osnabrücker Schlosses steht die Plastik Solara der Schweizer Künstlerin Claire Ochsner (* 1948). Das Werk aus bemaltem Polyester ist beweglich; die Energie liefern Solarzellen. Die sieben Meter hohe Skulptur wurde 1998 aus Anlass einer Umweltmesse aufgestellt und sollte anschließend wieder entfernt werden. Eine Schulklasse sammelte Unterschriften für den Verbleib.

"Kunst im öffentlichen Raum" dazu: Kunstsachverstand ist nicht gefragt, wo es KünstlerInnen gelingt, die öffentliche Meinung für ihre Kunst einzunehmen. Und so konnte es auch dazu kommen, dass das schreiend bunte, wie ein zu groß geratenes Kinderspielzeug wirkende, kinetische Objekt „Solara“ 1999 im Schloßgarten nahe dem Neuen Graben repräsentativ aufgestellt wurde. Ob das Schloss oder die Brunnenstele von Heinz Mack mit dem Objekt harmonieren, interessierte nicht.

On the palace grounds of Osnabrück Castle you find this kinetic sculpture "Solara" by the Swiss artist Claire Ochsner (* 1948). The painted polyester work moves; the energy is supplied by solar cells. The seven-meter-high sculpture was erected in 1998 on the occasion of an environmental fair and was to be removed afterwards. A school class collected signatures to fight for it to stay.

"Kunst im öffentlichen Raum" writes: Understanding art is not demanded, where artists manage to win the public for their art. So it happened, that the screaming colorful, kinetic object "Solara", looking like an oversized children's toy was not removed after the fair. Whether the castle or the fountain stele of Heinz Mack harmonize with the object was not of interest.
