The plaque reads:
Loss, No. 1
by Bryan Buikema, 2013
Weathering and Stainless Steel, Lyons sandstone
"Loss, No. 1" is the first in a series of sculptures to be
installed in Faormount's Highline Garden. The series
attempts to portray individual steps in the grieving process.
Using the language of metaphor and the given mediums,
the participant is able to engage in each grieving step,
the ultimate goal of being an open window to internal
self-awareness and renewed consciousness.
The first piece represents the initial loss; the incomplete
arc, unbalance and losing stability. The stone that
grounds the elements is unable to offer any support.
We then move forward, looking for emotional healing
and understanding.
