Mazie, and the neighboring town of Chouteau is known for its community of Amish and Mennonites. The population for Mazie is listed at numbers ranging between 91 and 211.
The Mazie Elementary School is a two-room school constructed in 1940 by the WPA. It is built of uncut, buff and auburn Native Stone laid in a random fashion. The roof is gabled with a small cross gable at the entrance, and is currently covered with blue metal siding. A rain shelter canopy has been added to the front of the entrance. The paired window units were originally set in threes with concrete sills, and have more recently been reduced with fiber glass inserts or brick. Additions and outbuildings have been added to the school complex.
The school has been nicely maintained and is continuing to serve as an elementary school. A WPA shield near the entrance shows 1940.
