This plaque is set in Woburn town meadow near a similar one detailing Rag Rock and the meadow itself.

This plaque reads:
"Here was formerly located the wharf and lumber yard of Captain Samuel Abbott on the Middlesex Canal. This landing was a principal shipping and receiving point for building materials and other merchandise. Loads of bark were brought down the canal from New Hampshire and teamed by oxcart to the tanneries of Woburn.
"Construction of the Middlesex Canal commenced in 1793. It was opened to through traffic from Boston to Lowell in 1803, operating until 1853. The Middlesex Canal was the first regional transportation canal in the United States, preceding the Erie Canal by nearly two decades. Colonel Loammi Baldwin of Woburn was Chief Engineer and Construction Superintendent.
