Two kinetic sculptures titled 'Steamboat Gateways' are located near Riverside Park. Each kinetic sculpture is comprised of a painted metal post with three metal birds on top that rotate in a circle when the wind is present. These two kinetic art pieces are meant to represent the smokestacks of the boats that once traveled the Willamette River in the late 1800s into the twentieth century before the railroads and auto traffic replaced this mode of transportation of goods and people. I discovered two other sculptures by Artist Miles Pepper on Waymarking here and here.
