Up near the new toilet block of the Riverside Camping Area is a sign with information of the previous Truss Bridge that crossed the Nymboida River.

These days there is a low concrete 'causeway' bridge over the Nymboida River only about 2 metres above the water. On a sunny day it can be hard to imagine the totally destructive force of water.
The irregularly shaped sign also has information for campers in the Reserve, and for canoeists, and the section on the Truss Bridge reads:
"A high level bridge was completed at this site in 1875 which took seven years to build. The bridge with its huge cylinders was 754 feet (230 m) long and 45 feet (13.7 m) high. The bridge collapsed under the strain of a flood on 26 March 1946, when the Nymboida rose to a record height of 52 feet (16 m). Remains of the old bridge can still be seen today."

There is still a Truss Bridge in the region, about 25 km north east, over the Orara River, and it is about 10 to 12 metres above the River, and it is hard to imagine the flow of water getting up to the deck of that bridge. [For photos of that Truss Bridge, see:
