Text of the plaque:
Ford Half-Track
The Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA) acquired this half-track as part of the process of "mechanizing", or replacing horses with motor vehicles.
Converted from a standard Ford civilian truck, this is one of four half-tracked gun tractors the RCA obtained in 1936. While tractors of various sorts had been used to pull artillery during the First World War, most guns were still pulled by horses. The RCA began to mechanize in the late 1920s, and experimented with various types of motorized tractors, including this one.
"This Ford half-track was the first military vehicle to be designed in Canada. Purchased in 1936 to tow artillery, it saw service with the Royal Canadian Artillery, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada."
