St Michael's Roman Catholic Church traces its roots to 1904, when the first Mass was celebrated in a vacant store front at the corner of Mississippi and Atlantic Avenues, not far from here. Shortly thereafter, ground was broken for this church, with consecration conducted in 1912. The associated parochial school conducted class here until the school next door was completed in 1926.
St. Michael's nearly closed in 2013, with the Diocese citing declining attendance and rising infrastructure costs. However, a grassroots campaign conducted by local business and neighbourhood citizens earned this venerable church a reprieve. As of 2015 it is part of the Parish of St Monica's. Although it is no longer an independent parish, it remains open for masses and other observances throughout the year.
Masses are conducted weekly during the summer months, and on the first Sunday of the month during the low season.
