Before this bridge was created, there were level-crossings of the railroad and Bayview Road from 1870 through 1982. During the life of the railroad roundhouse east of Bayview Road, there were two or three sets of tracks crossing Bayview Road.
The main railroad that crossed Bayview Road began as the Canada Central Railway. When that railroad was eventually abandoned, it was known as the Carleton Place sub-division of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Once the railroad was abandoned, the region's municipal bus service (OC Transpo) built a bus-only transitway along the corridor of the former railroad. That same corridor has now come full circle and is again hosting rail traffic.
From 1984 through 2015, this bridge hosted bus-only traffic. It was designed as part of the original OC Transpo transitway. Much of that transitway has now been converted for light-rail O-Train use. In 2018, pantograph-carrying two-car Alstom Citadis Spirit trains began using the refurbished bridge. Fare service begins in November.
To the west, transitway bridges 621-1983 through 631-1984 remain in situ in 2018. Those bridges carry automobile traffic over the transitway. The identification of this bridge is inscribed on the south side at the west end of the bridge, near the corner of Scott and Bayview.
