"Bridge Seat" by Gavin Carter can be found close to the lifting bridge in Douglas Harbour.
This sculpture takes the form of a wooden seat styled on the nearby liftig bridge and was designed by Gavin Carter as part of the Quayside Public Art Programme.
On the piece the following information is displayed below a representation of the Douglas Development Partnership mulit-coloured logo:
"Birdge Seat"
Artist: Gavin Carter
The "Bridge Seat" was designed by local artist Gavin Carter as part of the Quayside Public Art Programme. The design is an obvious reference to the adjacent lifting bridge. The use of heavy gauge steet expresses an empathy with other nearby structures related to the maritime industry. It is only at a second glance that the sense of balance and poise becomes the defining statement of this piece.
The waveform seat has been hand carved by the artist from locally sourced timber.
Douglas Development Partnership is grateful to the Borough of Douglas
and the Isle of Man Arts Council for their contribution and support for this project.'
