A la fin du XVIIème siècle, Joseph Sec, un marchand de bois aixois a construit un curieux monument jacobin et maçonnique. Cet édifice est un des rares vestiges d'une architecture révolutionnaire. On y découvre un pavillon et un mausolée autour d'un jardin clos.

Des bancs permettent de s'asseoir en toute tranquillité.

Les motifs et les statues sont empruntés à l'Ancien et au Nouveau Testament, à la symbolique maçonnique et à celle de la Révolution française.

Aujourd'hui, le bâtiment associé au jardin accueille le centre communal d'hygiène et de santé.



Description
Coté rue : La façade principale du monument présente la statue de Moïse tenant les tables de la loi, encadrée par les allégories de l'Afrique, symbole de l'esclavage, et de l'Europe, symbole de la liberté. Quatre cartouches complètent le frontispice.
Côté jardin : Une statue de Saint Jean Baptiste est disposée symétriquement à celle de Moïse.
Le jardin comporte sept statues d’environ 2,30 m de hauteur, à demi abritées dans des niches. Elles représentent des personnages de l'Ancien Testament : quatre personnages masculins, tous ancêtres de la Vierge et du Christ, alternent avec trois personnages féminins reliés par le thème des femmes fortes.
Ces sculptures en pierre de Calissane ont été réalisées par Pierre Pavillon entre 1663 et 1670. Elles faisaient partie d’un programme de huit statues destiné à orner la chapelle des Messieurs au collège des Jésuites d’Aix afin de rendre gloire à la Vierge.

Ce monument se voit de l'extérieur, mais on peut accéder au jardin aux horaires d'ouvertures du centre d'hygiène et santé de 8h à 16h du lundi au vendredi.

At the end of the 17th century, Joseph Sec, an Aix wood merchant, built a curious Jacobin and Masonic monument. This building is one of the rare vestiges of a revolutionary architecture. There is a pavilion and a mausoleum around an enclosed garden.

Benches allow you to sit in peace.

The motifs and statues are borrowed from the Old and New Testaments, from Masonic symbolism and from the French Revolution.

Today, the building associated with the garden houses the municipal hygiene and health center.



Description Side street: The main façade of the monument presents the statue of Moses holding the tables of the law, framed by the allegories of Africa, symbol of slavery, and Europe, symbol of freedom. Four cartridges complete the frontispiece.
Garden side: A statue of Saint John the Baptist is symmetrically arranged with that of Moses.
The garden has seven statues about 2.30 m high, half sheltered in niches. They represent characters from the Old Testament: four male characters, all ancestors of the Virgin and Christ, alternate with three female characters linked by the theme of strong women. These Calissane stone sculptures were made by Pierre Pavillon between 1663 and 1670, as part of a program of eight statues to decorate the chapel of the men at the Jesuit College of Aix in order to give glory to the Virgin Mary.

This monument can be seen from the outside, but you can access the garden during the opening hours of the health and hygiene centre from 8am to 4pm from Monday to Friday.
