De Pliniusbron of Pliniusfontein is een bron, genoemd naar Plinius de Oudere. Deze Romeinse encyclopedist maakte in zijn Natuurlijke Historie (31.12) melding van een waterbron in het gebied van de Tungri, een stam in Gallia Belgica:

"Bij de Tungri is een opmerkelijke bron die tintelt met veel waterbelletjes naar roest smaakt, wat men overigens pas gewaar wordt wanneer men ervan heeft gedronken. Het water reinigt het lichaam en geneest de derdedaagse koorts en de pijn van nierstenen."

Sinds de zestiende eeuw wordt deze bron gelijkgesteld met een ijzerhoudende bron bij Tongeren. Deze ligt ongeveer twee kilometer ten noorden van de stad, richting Hasselt. Het water is ijzerhoudend en werd ook in middeleeuwse geschriften als genezend omschreven: "zij die leden aen daghse kortse, het graveel, bloetspouwen of andere quaelen" zochten er bevrijding van hun kwalen. Het water werd in kruiken gedaan en, voorzien van het stadszegel naar overal verzonden. De bron werd zo beroemd dat zowel de Franse koning Lodewijk XV als Napoleon er hun dorst kwamen lessen maar raakte daarna in vergetelheid.

The Pliny source or Pliny fountain is a source, named after Pliny the Elder. This Roman encyclopedist reported in his Natural History (31.12) a source of water in the area of ??the Tungri, a tribe in Gallia Belgica:

"At the Tungri, a remarkable source that tingles with lots of water bubbles tastes like rust, which one only becomes aware of when they have drunk it, cleanses the body and heals the third-day fever and the pain of kidney stones."

Since the sixteenth century, this source has been equated with a ferrous source at Tongeren. It is located about two kilometers north of the city, in the direction of Hasselt. The water is ferruginous and was also described as healing in medieval writings: "those who were short-lived, graveyard, pallets, or other quaels" sought liberation from their ailments. The water was put in jars and, with the city seal sent to everywhere. The source became so famous that both the French king Louis XV and Napoleon came to quench their thirst, but then fell into oblivion.
