The Tampa Tarpons, the Class A-Advanced minor league team of the New York Yankees play their home games at the George M. Steinbrenner Field which is also the spring training field for the Yankees. The Tarpons have won five league championships in 1994, 2001, 2004, 2009, and 2010 as well as playing in multiple other semifinal games but not quite making it to the championship.

The George M. Steinbrenner stadium broke ground in 1994 after the old Al Lopez field had been demolished and Tampa had been without a baseball team for 8 years. The stadium opened in 1996 and was known as Legend Field. In 2008, the name was changed to honor Tampa resident and Yankees owner, George Steinbrenner. A renovation in 2016 ensured that the Yankees will continue to have their spring training in this location until 2046.
