U.S. Highway 60, a major thoroughfare across the country before interstate highways, heads northwest from Phoenix following the railroad line to Los Angeles. Some ninety miles from Phoenix is the crossroads of Aguila. Just south of town, along the Eagle Eye road, is a rock formation with a small arch that has been called the Eagle Eye. Aguila, spanish for eagle, is the name given this crossroads town. Founded to support the commerce generated by the railroad and the surrounding mines, the town was also a tourist stop for those travelling to or from Los Angeles, 300+ miles away. Currently, the major employer is a large cantaloupe farm. The rail station has been hauled away and the motels are all closed. The population in 2010 was 798.
