In Walpole, on the Walpole Town Green, is this cross shaped monument and engraved text on one side.

The Walpole Town Green is located in the downtown section, along Main Street and Common Street. The green is in three sections.

The cross is on the northeastern most section roughly in the middle. The monument is light colored and is in the form of a simple cross. The text is on the side that faces some bushes.

The text is as follows:

"Old Meetinghouse Common
Walpole First Houses of God, Those of Rev. Phillips Payson
and Rev. George Morey, Early Harvard Graduates
O Though Zion Mount of Pleading, Our Forefather's Earlier Shrine, Though Now Shorn of Crest
and Hillsides Still Art Thou Our "Auld Lang Syne." Twilight Memories, Lewis.

Erected
and Given in 1936
by Isaac Newton Lewis
Harvard, 73"

One of the meeting houses that first resided on the green still exists and is part of the First United Church to the south, facing another part of the green.

Isaac Newton Lewis was a local resident of Walpole and lived in a house that is shaped like a castle. It still stands and is still owned by a member of the Lewis family.
