The station is located at kilometer point 27,873 of the Iberian gauge railway line that connects Monforte de Lemos with Redondela at 137 meters above sea level, between the stations of San Pedro del Sil and Barra de Miño . The section is single track and is electrified. To access the station, and in the direction of Orense, it is necessary to cross the Los Peares viaduct, an iron bridge that allows you to cross the Sil river at the point where it joins the Miño river .

History
The station was inaugurated on December 1, 1884 with the opening of the Monforte de Lemos - Orense section of the line that linked Vigo with Monforte de Lemos. Its initial exploitation was in charge of the Medina to Zamora and Orense to Vigo Railway Company . This management continued until 1928 when it was absorbed by the Compañía Nacional de los Ferrocarriles del Oeste de España, a public company created to manage several routes, generally loss-making, in the west of the country. In 1941, Oeste was one of the companies that was integrated into the newly created RENFE .

Since December 31, 2004, Renfe Operadora has operated the line while Adif is the owner of the railway facilities.

Since November 21, 2022, circulation between Ourense and Monforte de Lemos has been cut off due to the modernization works on the line for the arrival of high-speed trains. Peares station services are by taxi.
The building for travelers, with two floors and a rectangular base, was restored by the Inorde and the Orense Provincial Council in 2010 to convert it into a railway classroom that includes a permanent exhibition on the history of the railway in the province of Ourense and a library related to the same theme. For their part, the trains that continue to stop at the station do so mainly on the track that gives access to the side and central platforms. Another track serves as a section and facilitates the crossing of trains on this single track layout."
