Carlyle Lake is the largest lake in Illinois. This sandy beach gets a lot of visitors on a hot summer day. Activities on the beach include swimming, sunbathing and sand volleyball. The lake is popular for boating and fishing. There is a visitors center, camping, hotel and golf course nearby. Lots of picnic tables and shade, although not on the sandy beach.
