"De watertoren van de stad Delft, in de Nederlandse provincie Zuid-Holland, is gelegen aan een zijtak van de Delftse Schie, voor de Calvé-fabriek in het noorden van de stad. Deze watertoren uit 1895, met een hoogte van 29 m en een waterresevoir van 600 m³, was bedoeld voor de drinkwatervoorziening en werd gebouwd in neorenaissancestijl naar ontwerp van gemeentearchitect M.A.C. Hartman.

In 2002 werd er een prijsvraag gehouden over de toekomst van de watertoren, een rijksmonument. Uit de inzendingen werd het plan om een klimhal te vestigen gekozen. In totaal werden 26 inzendingen ingediend en beoordeeld door een gemeentelijke commissie. Ook de Rijksdienst voor Monumentenzorg, de Welstandscommissie en de Nederlandse Watertorenstichting hebben adviezen uitgebracht.

In 2005 werd de watertoren opnieuw verkocht, omdat het plan voor een klimtoren niet uitvoerbaar was. Nummer twee van de prijsvraag kreeg een kans en er zou een waterwinkel worden opgestart.

In 2022 werd de vlag van Oekraïne op de watertoren gevlogen, vanwege de Russische invasie."

"The water tower of the city of Delft, in the Dutch province of South Holland, is located on a branch of the Delftse Schie, in front of the Calvé factory in the north of the city. This water tower from 1895, with a height of 29 m and a water reservoir of 600 m³, was intended for drinking water supply and was built in neo-Renaissance style according to a design by municipal architect M.A.C. Hartman.

In 2002, a competition was held about the future of the water tower, a national monument. The plan to establish a climbing gym was chosen from the entries. A total of 26 entries were submitted and assessed by a municipal committee. The National Office for Monument Care, the Welstandscommissie and the Dutch Water Tower Foundation have also issued advice.

In 2005, the water tower was sold again, because the plan for a climbing tower was not feasible. Number two in the competition was given a chance and a water shop would be started.

In 2022, the flag of Ukraine was flown on the water tower, due to the Russian invasion.”
