FR A l'extrémité d'une colline qui touche le flanc sud du massif du Luberon, dans un cadre enchanteur entouré d'une végétation variée, une chapelle domine la vallée d'Aigues. Portant également le nom de Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir, elle comporte sur son côté est une partie habitable qui justifie le terme d'ermitage.

Cité à partir de 1292 dans un document testamentaire, cet édifice fut d'abord un lieu de pèlerinage paroissial. De la chapelle d'origine il ne reste que l'abside en cul-de-four. En 1602, une confrérie l'occupa et y construisit un clocher, puis un ermitage en 1613, puis une nouvelle nef en 1614. Le lieu fut habité jusqu'à la Révolution ; après celle-ci il devint une propriété de la commune. La chapelle fut restaurée plus tard, en 1957, ainsi que dans les années 1970. Depuis 1988, le Centre Culturel Cucuron-Vaugines prend soin de ce patrimoine afin de le préserver et de le faire vivre. Des manifestations telles que des concerts et des rencontres y sont aujourd'hui organisées.

A l'intérieur de la chapelle, le mur d'extrémité du choeur est recouvert de restes de peintures murales. Derrière l'autel et sous la statue de Marie, est entreposé un curieux ex-voto, constitué par une silhouette de navire en tôle de fer. A droite dans une niche, est déposée une statuette naïve de Vierge à l'Enfant.

EN At the end of a hill that touches the southern flank of the Luberon massif, in an enchanting setting surrounded by varied vegetation, a chapel dominates the Aigues valley. Also known as Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir, it has on its east side a habitable part that justifies the term hermitage.

From 1292 onwards, in a testamentary document, this building was first a place of parish pilgrimage. From the original chapel, only the apse remains in the cul-de-four. In 1602, a brotherhood occupied it and built a bell tower, then a hermitage in 1613, then a new nave in 1614. The place was inhabited until the Revolution; after that it became the property of the town. The chapel was restored later, in 1957, as well as in the 1970s. Since 1988, the Cucuron-Vaugines Cultural Centre has been taking care of this heritage in order to preserve it and bring it to life. Events such as concerts and meetings are nowadays organised there.

Inside the chapel, the end wall of the choir is covered with the remains of wall paintings. Behind the altar and under the statue of Mary, a curious ex-voto is stored, consisting of a silhouette of a ship made of iron sheet. On the right in a niche, a naive statuette of the Virgin and Child is placed.
