The town of Wayne was established when the railroad came through. It was named by railroad workers for a town in Pennsylvania where they came from. Another story says that Wayne was named after Mad Anthony Wayne, an Army general from the Revolutionary War. (Maybe that's how Wayne, Pennsylvania got its name). The town was established in 1902. It is located on Highway 77 about 40 miles south of Oklahoma City in McClain County. The town is agricultural, with some small businesses.
The town hall is located in the northeast part of town, just east of Highway 77. The building is a metal building with a metal canopy across the front. The building houses the administrative offices, the municipal court and the police department. Wayne has a Mayor/Council form of government. Town meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 6:00PM; Municipal court is held the second Tuesday each month at 3:00PM. The administrative offices are open Monday to Friday from 8:00-4:30.
