This 'You Are Here' map is situated on King Street opposite the Borough Arms Hotel in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The map is mounted on a sign, shows paths in the area known as Station Walks, between King Street and Hempstalls Lane. This map is located at the entrance to Station Walks from King Street.
This location was the site of Newcastle-under-Lyme station. The path follows the route of the former Junction canal, that later was used by the railway.

"Station Walks now have a length of 375 metres, with shrub beds and forest trees, close to the line of the disused North Staffordshire Railway and its station which were removed around 1960. This doubled the width of the walks, although at a lower level. A 1903 bronze statue of Queen Victoria on a granite plinth was moved here in 1963 from Newcastle town centre.
History: Formerly known as Brampton Walks, these were originally 5 acres of land allotted to public walks in the Inclosure Act of 1816. Rural promenades were laid out in 1820 and invested in the town corporation in 1835." Source: (visit link)

On maps as early as the 1830's this area was marked as "Public Walks" and was shown running alongside the Junction Canal and was laid out with grass and trees. Source: (visit link) (visit link)

The railway, which originally went from Stoke to Newcastle was opened in 1852, with an extension to Market Drayton in 1870.
The railway was closed in 1965 and the cuttings were filled in to form Station Walks.
