In October 2018, The Washington County Veterans Association (WCVA) installed this particular F-111A fighter jet at Henderson Park in Brenham, Texas. It was dedicated to the public a month later, on Veteran's Day 2018.
The aircraft serves as a memorial to ten specific men who sacrificed their lives in
Operation Linebacker II during the Vietnam War so that their POW comrades could return home to their families. It also serves as a reminder that freedom is not free, but is paid for by the sacrifices of our service men and women who willingly stand between us and those who would do us harm.
The memorial was paid for by a fundraising campaign by the WCVA.
The aircraft on display is actually Serial# 67-012, but was painted and marked as "67-068" in honor of the 429th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base back in 1972.
Additional details about this particular set of F-111A fighter jets can be found at the
National Museum of the US Air Force.
