At 2407 ft., Cheaha Mountain is the highest point in the state of Alabama. Back in the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps, one of President Roosevelt’s “alphabet soup” programs, did extensive work in the area around the highpoint, effectively creating Cheaha State Park. They built a lake, a bathhouse, picnic areas, a lookout tower at the summit and numerous hiking trails.

One of these CCC trails leads to a lookout point known as Pulpit Rock. The trail is about half a mile long and starts from a small parking area off the one-way loop road. The view is to the northwest and overlooks the Talladega National Forest.
