"Carnegie Library in Lewiston's Pioneer Park will be open fewer hours on different days beginning Feb. 1.
The new hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Library Board Chairwoman Joanne McCormack said.
The library is now open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays.
Traffic is light at Carnegie, and library employees are needed at Tsceminicum branch at 428 Thain Road, especially on Saturdays, McCormack said.
The libraries employ seven full-time and three part-time people.
Access by school children wasn't discussed at Wednesday night's board meeting, but the shorter hours aren't expected to curtail much traffic, she said.
Webster Elementary dismisses students at 3:08 p.m. Other Lewiston grade schools release students at 3:30.
Arrangements will be made to transfer genealogy materials to Tsceminicum as needed for genealogy club meetings."
