He and his crewmate, then 1st Lt. Thomas M. Kilcullen, were on a combat mission in an F-4C when it was hit by enemy ground fire. They were both seen to eject successfully, but they were never found. Both seem to have been pilots so it is not clear who was the pilot and who was the WSO on their final mission. He has a memorial stone in Arlington and is also listed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
