James Last (* 17. April 1929 in Bremen as Hans Last; † 9. June 2015 in West Palm Beach, Florida, United States) was a German bandleader, composer, arranger and music producer. With his 40-strong orchestra, he coined the "Happy Sound", which belongs to the Easy Listening style.
In addition to television appearances, he gave concerts with his orchestra worldwide, for example in the USA, Japan, Great Britain and Australia.
James Last has sold a total of over 80 million albums, of which he was awarded gold and platinum records for over 5.2 million records sold in his native Germany alone. But there have also been awards in Canada, the Netherlands, Great Britain and Denmark.
