Oklahoma City is steadily growing as a beer city. From Edmond to Norman, there are currently 21 companies making craft beer, with 7 more breweries in planning. Here is a tour of the Oklahoma City brewpubs.
We start at Stonecloud Brewing, 1012 NW 1st St just north of Reno on Classen, Look for the Sunshine Cleaners neon sign (Waymark Code: WMWFXX) over the building. Parking on the west side and along the streets. (I suggest the Novelty Theory, Barleywine).
From here, go north on Classen, turn east on 10th, then north on Hudson. The parking is on the northeast corner of 11th and Hudson. The building just north on Hudson houses Elk Valley Brewing, 1210 N Hudson. Parking on the south side of the building and across Hudson. No food, tv or games, you are here for the beer. The brewery is visible from the outside. (Le Ferme Farmhouse Ale)
For the next stop, go back south to NW 10th St, turn east. Go past Broadway and look on the north side for Twisted Spike Brewing, 1 NW 10th St. Parking? There is none. Inside, they have tvs, games to play, darts, and a limited food menu. (Belgian Wit or Holy Beer)
When done here, turn back west on NW 10th, turn south on Broadway, then turn east on NW 8th St, cross the railroad tracks, and turn north into the 8th St Market (usually plenty of parking). Prairie Artisan Ales is in the back of the Market. No tvs, no live music, no games. It's a tasting and taproom. (Farm to Table)
For the next stop, just go west on NW 8th and cross Broadway. Look on the south side for Vanessa House Beer Co, 118 NW 8th St. Parking available in the church parking lot to the west. Video and board games available. (No suggestions from me, here, you're on your own. The two I tried weren't "my cup of tea")
Now to the center of downtown OKC's visitor's corridor. Go back east on NW 8th, turn south on Broadway. Turn east on Sheridan (thru the tunnel under the train tracks) and Bricktown Brewery (1 N Oklahoma Ave) will be on the northwest corner of Sheridan and Oklahoma. (Hint- free parking behind Bricktown Brewery for patrons. Go north on Oklahoma Ave.) (Wiley's One Eyed Wheat, wheat beer)
For the next stop, go south on Oklahoma Ave, turn west on Reno Ave. Angry Scotsman Brewing is on the southwest corner of Reno and Lee. For parking and entrance, turn south on Lee Ave and park behind Angry Scotsman. (No suggestions, it was closed when I went by.)
Now to the last of the central group. Go back north to Reno, turn west to Western Ave. Turn south on Western, then east on SW 4th. Anthem Brewing is on the south at 908 SW 4th St. Limited parking at the front. No tvs, and a limited choice of games to play. (Tankewiezen, hefe-wiezen)
Being done in the city center, we go to the southwest side. As there is no picturesque route, we'll go for a quick one. Go west on SW 4th to Western, then south on Western. Take the entrance to I-40 West, get in the 2nd or 3rd lane from the left to go thru the "Amarillo Junction" of I-40/I-44. Keep heading west on I-40, exit on Council Ave. Turn south on Council, then west on SW 47th. Coop Ale Works is ahead where the road turns north, 4745 Council Heights Rd. No tvs or games inside, but they have horseshoes and cornhole out back. Interesting part of Coop is you drink your beers in the brewing area, with the fermenters and canning equipment right beside you! (DNR, Belgian dark ale)
On to the final st ---- Not so fast. There is a side trip available to a co-op brewing establishment, Brewer's Union at 520 N Meridian. Usually, four start-up brewers use the facilities to make their beers. The money raised allows them to start their own operations. To get there, go back east to Council Rd and turn north. Turn east on Reno, then north on Meridian. Just across the railroad tracks is Brewers Union. Parking out front. No view of the brewhouse in the rear.
Now to the last stop. If you didn't go to Brewer's Union, traveling north on Council you take I-40 eastbound. From Brewer's Union, go south on Merdian, then east on I-40.
Once on I-40 eastbound, get in the left lane to take I-44 eastbound (towards Tulsa). Around N 36th St, be sure to be in the right lane to follow I-44 east. Take Hwy 77/Broadway Extension north towards Edmond. Take the S Kelley Ave northbound exit, then turn west on S 33rd St. Turn south on Metro Plaza Blvd. Battered Boar Brewing Co is at 14700 Metro Plaza, Ste F. Being north of Memorial Rd, it's darned-near in Edmond, but the address puts it in OKC. (No suggestions as I haven't been here myself, yet.)
