FR Diane est originellement une déesse latine ayant pouvoir sur la procréation et la naissance des enfants. Son sanctuaire le plus important situé à Aricie sert également de centre à la confédération latine avant que Rome n'en prenne la tête. Elle est très tôt devenue la déesse de la chasse dans la mythologie romaine, après son assimilation à la déesse Artémis du panthéon grec durant le lectisterne de 399 av. J.-C.
Diane a souvent été considérée comme un aspect d'une triple déesse, connue sous le nom de Diana triformis : Diana, Luna et Hecate. Selon l'historien C.M. Green, « il ne s'agissait ni de déesses différentes, ni d'une fusion de déesses différentes. C'étaient Diane ... Diane chasseresse, Diane lune, Diane des enfers. » Diane a été vénérée comme une triple déesse à partir de la fin du VIe siècle avant notre ère.

La fontaine présentée ici est une fontaine abreuvoir. On le devine car
* la fontaine est très allongée et de forme assez typique
* les rebords sont très bas pour permettre à de nombreux animaux de s'abreuver en même temps.
Au centre un calcaire recouvert de mousse accueille une statue de Diane sur sa partie supérieure.
On peut supposer que ce soit la diane chasseresse car elle est accompagnée d'un chien de chasse.

The fountain shown here is a drinking fountain. We can guess because
* the fountain is very elongated and of a fairly typical shape
* the edges are very low to allow many animals to drink at the same time.
In the centre, a limestone covered with moss houses a statue of Diana on its upper part.
It can be assumed that it is the huntress diana because she is accompanied by a hunting dog.
