The monks are carved from old elm trees that have grown around the church. The monks are raised in remembrance of the monks who built and lived in Holme Kloster from 1172 - 1536, where Brahetrolleborg Church was a monastic church. The kneeling monks in the northwest corner symbolize the prayer. The upright monks - one in the northeast corner and one in the middle of the lawn - symbolize the work.
