The town of Forfar lies in the county of Angus in north-east Scotland. This view from 1907 is taken in Carseburn Road, a quiet street to the north of the town centre, looking north-eastwards.
The view is typical of the time, with in the distance, one of the many tall chimneys that dominated the landscape of the town due to the many jute mills that were scattered throughout. This particular smokestack belonged to Station Works.
The view now has completely changed apart from the line of the street. The mills and chimneys have all disappeared. The line of houses ahead on Don Street remain, albeit refurbished and without chimneys. On the right-hand side of the street, new houses have been built during the last twenty years on what was a fabrication site.
