Václav Špacek of Starburg (Václav Špacek ze Starburgu; *March 5, 1840 - †April 3, 1912) was a Czech businessman in the postal service, a landowner, the owner of the Kokorín castle and a patron. He was born into the family of draper Václav Špacek and his wife Anna, née Paletová. He graduated from the grammar school in Jindrichuv Hradec and law in Prague. Václav Špacek owned large stables with horses in Prague, which he leased to the Postal Service. He used the wealth he gained through the postal business to buy the Xaverov and Kokorín estates. Kokorín Castle, which he bought as a ruin in 1894, was reconstructed by him and his son Jan.
Václav Špacek received the title of Imperial Councilor, was the holder of the Golden Cross of Merit with a crown. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Josef I., he was nobilized on November 30, 1908, and thus became the founder of the very young noble family Špacek of Starburg.
The medieval Kokorín Castle is located about 10 km northeast of Melník above the Pšovka River in the Doksy Uplands, near the village of Kokorín. The castle was reconstructed from the ruins in the years 1911–1918. Kokorín Castle is opened for visitors and thanks to pictoresque and romantic surroundings belongs among the most popular destinations for weekend trips of Praguers.
