This statue of St. Jude is located outside of St. Jude Church on West 6th Street in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Saint Jude, also known as Thaddeus, was one of Christ's twelve apostles and author of an epistle included in the New Testament. He is believe to have been martyred with St. Simon in Lebanon. St. Jude is often depicted, as he is in this statue, with a flame on his head as a symbol of his receiving the Holy Ghost at Pentecost with the other apostles. St. Jude's feast day is celebrated on October 28th.
