The Brick Store-Store site in Horseneck by 1798. Brick structure erected by Nath. Douglass, turnpike promoter with I. Crane, 1819, first Caldwell (Franklin) post office, J. Hudson P.M. A major trading and polling place through 19th C. From 1904, council chamber of new borough. Purchased in 1915; remodeled to include fire dept., police, and finally, a jail. Razed in 1968.
