IN A BARREL AND LIVE
JULY 11, 1886
He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY
Description: From Find A Grave: First person to go through the Whirlpool Rapids (below the falls) in a barrel and live, in July 1886. He also made the barrel that Annie Edson Taylor used. She was the first person to go over the Horseshoe Falls and live. Although they did not like each other in life, they are buried next to each other in death.
He did NOT, as the newspaper clipping says, go OVER the falls. He was afraid to do that. This probably led to the trouble between him and Annie, who WAS brave enough to go over the falls.
