Located in Volusia County, Florida just west of Orange City is the Blue Spring. Known locally as the Blue Spring Boil, this first magnitude spring discharges between 70 - 102 million gallons of water daily into the St. Johns River via the Blue Spring Run.
The Blue Spring Run is a designated manatee refuge and is closed to paddlers during the winter months, (November 15 - March 1). During extreme cold weather, over 300 manatee have been counted in the run.
The St. Johns River on either side of the run is designated as a "No Wake Zone," making the area great for kayaking and canoeing. A swimming area is just south of the head spring and is popular during the summer months with swimmers due to the 72 degree water temperature.
A boardwalk is available that will take visitors to the spring head. A viewing area is available to look down into the spring headwaters. Food and gift concessions are available along with picnic areas and restroom facilities. This spring head is ADA accessible. A large covered area is located just before the headspring with bench style seating and an extensive kiosk with natural history of the spring area.
