Zuidbroek station is the Zuidbroek railway station. It was once a not insignificant railway junction, where the railway line Harlingen - Nieuwe Schans (opened on May 1, 1868) crossed with the railway Stadskanaal - Zuidbroek and the railway line Zuidbroek - Delfzijl, parts of the NOLS line Zwolle - Delfzijl (opened 1903-1910 ). From Zuidbroek it was possible to travel by train to all corners of the world. Today it is a simple stop.
The station building from 1865 is a renewed version of the third class type of the Standard stations of the State Railways, which is also still present in Meppel. The building has been renovated twice. The first time was circa 1910. During the second renovation, in 1958, the building was considerably reduced: both side wings and the top floor were demolished. These parts were rebuilt between 2008 and 2011. The building is now home to the North Netherlands Train & Tram Museum.
After the decommissioning by the Dutch Railways, the renovation of the station building started in August 2002, with the roof being the first to be renovated.
The North Netherlands Train & Tram Museum was opened by Wilma Mansveld (State Secretary for Infrastructure and the Environment) on October 10, 2014. Man of the first hour, board member and founder Rowin Penning received a Royal award during this event.
It is worth mentioning that on the south side of the yard there is an authentic goods shed, of which not much has been preserved. There is also a former station coffee house on the north side of the yard, currently in use as Hotel Hulsebos.
Zuidbroek had a second station on the NOLS line to Delfzijl, the Zuidbroek village stop near Uiterburen.
In September / October 2020, as part of the modifications for the Groningen-Germany express train connection, the Zuidbroek station area was renovated. Tracks 4 and 5 were broken up and track 3 (in addition to an extended and widened central platform) was rebuilt.
