La présence de ce rocher partiellement taillé au milieu des bois qui bordent la Semme a de tous temps alimenté l'imagination populaire. Il s'agirait en fait d'un ouvrage entamé par les moines qui peuplaient le monastère de Châteauponsac. Ils avaient commencé à tailler à même le rocher une cuve baptismale destinée recueillir l'eau bénite et orner l'intérieur de l'église Saint Thyrse. Ils durent malheureusement abandonner cette entreprise suite aux dévastations perpétrées lors de la guerre de Cent Ans car nombre d'entre eux furent appelés à regagner leur abbaye mère à Déols (36) ne laissant à Châteauponsac qu'une poignée de moines.

The presence of this partially cut rock in the middle of the woods bordering the Semme has always fueled the popular imagination. It is in fact a work started by the monks who populated the monastery of Châteauponsac. They had started to carve out of the rock a baptismal font intended to collect holy water and adorn the interior of Saint Thyrse Church. Unfortunately, they had to abandon this business following the devastation perpetrated during the Hundred Years War because many of them were called to return to their mother abbey in Déols (36), leaving only a handful of monks in Châteauponsac.
