These remnants were found while digging to build a new Santa Casa da Misericórdia facility.

These remnants were discovered in 1994. First were found simple objects, like coins and ceramic fragments. Then an archaeological action revealed the structure of several residential buildings forming a whole block.
Part of these can be observed by the public passing by. Most of this dates from the Islamic period but some elements are from a later time, perhaps the 16th century, including Portuguese elements.
