"Fue construido en el año 1518 por orden del Cabildo de la ciudad para albergar usos comerciales y financieros, en el corazón mismo de la ciudad.
Un enfrentamiento entre la Capilla Real y el Ayuntamiento afectó al diseño del edificio: la planta baja se reservaba para lonja de mercaderes y la alta servía como anexo a la Capilla Real. El cuerpo reservado a lonja, en la planta baja, se organiza según la tradición de las loggias medievales: una galería de arcos abierta a un espacio público.
Entre arco y arco se pueden observar los escudos de la ciudad de Granada."

"It was built in 1518 by order of the City Council to house commercial and financial uses, in the very heart of the city.
A confrontation between the Royal Chapel and the City Council affected the design of the building: the ground floor was reserved for the marketplace of merchants and the upper floor served as an annex to the Royal Chapel. The body reserved for the fish market, on the ground floor, is organized according to the tradition of medieval loggias: a gallery of arches open to a public space.
