Martirio de Juan Cetina y Pedro Dueñas

"In the atrium of the Church of Santa María de la Alhambra, we can see a Pudinga stone column crowned with a cartouche written in Latin, which recalls the martyrdom of Juan Cetina and Pedro Dueñas.

This cartouche is a reproduction of the original, made in 1610 at the initiative of Archbishop Pedro de Castro Cabeza de Vaca y Quiñones, and which is in the Alhambra Museum. In it you can read:

“Year from MCCCXCVII to XII of May, with Mohamed reigning in Granada, Fr. Pedro de Dueñas and Fr. Juan de Cetina, from the Order of Fr. S. Francisco, were martyred by order of the same king in this Alhambra, whose relics are here. To whose honor and to God our Lord this memory is consecrated by order of the Illustrious Mr. D. Pedro de Castro, Archbishop of Granada, year MDCX “."
