Vickers Petroleum - Haysville, KS - Kansas Historical Markers on Waymarking.com

Vickers Petroleum Station was added to the NRHP in August 2019. This marker is in excellent condition, so I think it is fairly new. It is located at the NE corner of Grand and Main, to the west of the building.

The station is red and white, and designed to withstand severe wind and weather. The pumps are on the west side of the building, and are also red and white.

Vickers Petroleum commissioned John M. Hickman of Architects Associated to design the gas station. Hickman apprenticed under Frank Lloyd Wright. The Vickers Petroleum Service Station represents the history of oil in the region. The building exhibits some interior reconstruction, yet the architectural integrity of the structure remains intact. Vickers Petroleum Service Station remains in its original location and retains its character defining features.
