Porter Farm - Terrell, TX - Century Farms on Waymarking.com

This group of markers on the east side of FM986 celebrate the accomplishments of Porter Farm, which in 1903 was (as it is claimed) the first scientific demonstration farm in the world. A small plaque on a stone, set in 2003, notes the centennial celebration of this farm's operation as a demonstration farm. However, the Texas Department of Agriculture (which maintains the state list of Century Farms as part of their Family Land Heritage program) notes that Porter Farms was established much earlier, in 1877. This web article notes that the farm was still managed by the family over a century later.
