"A rosary is a garden in which roses are the main plants. After the Second World War in the Wilhelminapark a rosarium (plural rosaria) was built, with a monument in memory of the Meppel war victims.

Initially, on that spot, houses for sale were planned but when those plots were not sold, the plan was born to establish a rosarium.

According to Wikipedia there are 13 rosaries in the Netherlands, one of which is in Meppel. Rosaria were popular in the 18 and 19 century.."
