The monument commemorates the many inhabitants of Maassluise who lost their lives at sea, often while doing their job. The artist has designed an active and dynamic image for the maritime monument of Maassluis. He wants to evoke thoughts of the strenuous and dangerous work on board the ships, which sometimes resulted in the loss of human life. The statue was unveiled April 7, 2007.
