The church is now built on the site of the original Santa Cruz Mission, after it was destroyed in 1857 when the Fort Tejon Earthquake came through the area. The plaque has names of many Mexican organizations that helped make the church a little bit better. The plaque was placed here in 1993, to acknowledged the help the church received from private donors.
The website states that, "Holy Cross church for its painted ceiling, and spire, perfectly sited to serve as a landmark for the entire city. The Mission centennial granite agate in front of the church is the most impressive display of the stone cutter's art in the city."
