Prior to St. Paul's there was no R.C. Church in Blackstone and the Catholic population either worshipped in private homes or eventually at St. Charles Church in Woonstocket. The construction of the church marked a coming of age for the Irish population and the vital role the church was to play in their religious and social life. The Church is distinguished in that it straddles the state line between Mass. and R.I.
