According to the MACRIS website: https://mhc-macris.net/Details.aspx?MhcId=LEN.801

"The land for the burial yard, as well as that for the meetinghouse, was given to the inhabitants of Lenox in 1768 by the heirs of the Rev. Peter Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds and his family lived in Connecticut. Three acres across the hill were given 'in consideration of the love, god will and affection they bore to the people and town of Lenox' and 'forever or so long as i t shall be used and improved for the purpose aforesaid'".

"In 1834, with the disestablishment of the Congregational Churches in Massachusetts, the land was divided with the burial yard remaining the property of the town and the land upon which the meetinghouse stood becoming the property of the Congregational Society. Today the burial yard is maintained by the Cemetery Commission."

The Church on the Hill Cemetery is an oblong parcel of land approximately 470' long by 250' wide. An asphalt paved road runs inside the perimeter of the cemetery. The church and the cemetery is reached by an uphill road from Route 7A. There is a sign for the church but not the cemetery. The most famous persons interred are Revolutionary War Army Major General and later U.S. Congressman John Paterson and conductor and music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra Serge Alexandrovich Koussevitzky.
