Spicer Patrick

Born 1791 in New York, he moved to Kanawha County to practice medicine and became a prominent politician. He served several terms in the VA Assembly and opposed secession at the 1861 Richmond Convention. In 1863, Patick was elected to the WV House of Delegates, where he became the first Speaker of the House. He later served in the State Senate, 1870!71. Patrick died in 1884.
