St John at Hackney Parish Boundary Marker - Victoria Park, London, UK - Public Land Survey Marks on Waymarking.com

This stone stands in mid-park, in a grassed area just south of the Burdett-Coutts Drinking Fountain and north-west of the bandstand. It marks the boundary between the parishes of St John at Hackney (to the north) and St Matthew Bethnal Green (to the south). In later years it also served as the boundary marker between the London Boroughs of Hackney and Tower Hamlets, but this is no longer relevant since realignment in 1995, with the whole of Victoria Park now in Tower Hamlets.

The stone is white-painted and currently standing at an angle. The inscriptions are worn and hard to read. Legible on one face is ‘H P’; presumably standing for Hackney Parish and the date 1886. Another face has the date 1893.
